The 3 Most Significant Disasters In Upvc Replacement Door Handles History

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors get worn out over time and need to be replaced. It is essential to keep the same dimensions as the handles you have previously replaced when replacing them.

The top screw position the lever, and the keyhole sizes are the three measurements you have to verify. Use the size guide to assist you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle or lever is a modern-day door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This type of handle is available in various designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this type of handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles of uPVC/Composite are made of robust materials and are perfect for multi-point lock doors which require a robust design. The handles are inline, and use the same screws and spindle to secure them. They can be easily installed on new or existing uPVC/Composite door.

The sprung lever design allows the handle to be placed and angled for comfortable operation and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles, which helps to ensure the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever can be shortened to fit the widest range of locks. This is useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is further back in the door. A shortened lever is also an excellent option for doors where the latch can be operated by a thumb turn inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is distinct from the lever handles that are found on most doors. These handle types can either operate from a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are generally used on UPVC double glazed doors. They come in many variations & finishes.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200,000 cycles and are available in various finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is compliant with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.

All UPVC handle lever pads come with a spindle, screws and can be mounted on the uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm allow for a wider size of handle which is often a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are spring-loaded, thereby solving the issue of handles that slide from their horizontal position when they are not being used.

It is essential to match up the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also known as the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres and is an essential aspect of matching up the correct handles.

When you have the right PZ size you will then need to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you need for your doors. These are typically square or round with an internal lever, and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads we offer are sprung, which means that they return to their horizontal position when not in use, rather than hanging out and possibly securing in the frame. This stops draughts and cold air from entering a home. It is also the case that the majority of UPVC handle lever pad style handles are hand-operated, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. They operate by using a key to unlock a cylinder that will reveal pins that can be aligned with those in the lock body and permitting them to turn the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins with both internal and external doors generally having different levels of security.

The choice of the correct cylinder is essential; it depends on the way your doors and handles are used. External doors, for instance are required to be fitted with higher security cylinders, whereas internal doors can be secured using a standard cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that increase security, such as anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it should be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the other end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this while the lock is in place however, when this isn't possible, you may take it off to measure. It is important to avoid having a extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon.  upvc door handles  can make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

Most modern cylinders are made with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. They are designed to minimize attack chances by forcing the cylinders to turn in a new direction. This can help prevent attacks and keep your doors safe.

There are cylinders made to resist snapping. This is a more frequent method of attack on cylinders which is where the break line of the lock is targeted by a tool that is specially designed to break the front of the cylinder and allow the door to open. This is a faster and simpler method to gain access than using a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which can delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits in the base of the door handle backplate providing a sprung solution and returning your multipoint lock handles to their rest position after usage. The handles had no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was disengaged. This simple feature is among the best methods to correct this, and is an excellent way to stop your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in either closed or open position, as they aren't always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specifically made for use with multipoint locks that are sprung, they will not fit unsprung multipoint handles and you will require a hole specifically cut in the backplate to allow them to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution for damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are fitted with a square cut-out that can accommodate an 8mm spindle, and are sold as a set.

These spring cassettes offer an excellent value solution for the problem of door handles that have become sagging. They are simple to install and will extend the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
